Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open the app and add your pet.
Where are my records kept?
In an encrypted database on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere, and there is no server to upload them to.
I am not getting reminders.
Open More ▸ Reminders. It states whether notifications are allowed for this device, whether reminders are switched on, and whether quiet hours are set. A dose that falls inside your quiet hours is not delivered — it is still due at the time it was prescribed, and it still appears on the dashboard.
If notifications are turned off for the app, you can change that in the system settings: Settings ▸ PetMedLog ▸ Notifications on iOS, or Settings ▸ Apps ▸ PetMedLog ▸ Notifications on Android. Everything else in PetMedLog works exactly the same without them.
On Android, reminders are scheduled as exact alarms so a dose set for 08:00 is announced at 08:00 rather than whenever the system next wakes the app. Some phones add their own battery saver on top of Android’s; if reminders arrive late or not at all, allow PetMedLog to run in the background in your phone’s battery settings.
How do I get my records out?
More ▸ Backup writes a backup file, and Export as CSV on the same screen writes a spreadsheet for your vet. On iOS both land in the app’s folder in the Files app. On Android an app’s own storage is not browsable, so each file has a Share button beside it that hands it to email, Drive or anywhere else you pick. This works on every plan and after any subscription ends. The file is readable text and is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere you are content for your pet’s health records to sit.
Why can’t I add another pet?
Each plan covers a number of pets. Adding another needs a plan that covers it — see More ▸ Plans and pricing. Subscriptions are billed by the store the app came from, and are cancelled there: Settings ▸ Apple Account ▸ Subscriptions on iOS, Google Play ▸ Payments and subscriptions on Android. Nothing you have already recorded is affected: every pet, every dose and every export keeps working on any plan.
I logged a dose by mistake.
Log the correction. Dose records are never edited or deleted, and both entries stay visible with who recorded each and when. That is deliberate: in a household with two people looking after one animal, a quietly overwritten record is how a dose gets given twice.
Why won’t the app tell me if a reading is normal?
Because it is not qualified to. PetMedLog records what you and your veterinarian put into it. It does not diagnose, does not prescribe, never calculates or suggests a dose, and does not judge a measurement. Your veterinarian interprets the numbers; the app makes sure you have them.
Deleting the app
Removing PetMedLog deletes its encrypted database from your device. Make a backup first — and, on Android, share it somewhere off the device — if you want to keep your records. Android’s automatic backup is switched off for this app on purpose: the key that opens the database never leaves the phone, so a copy restored elsewhere could not be read.
Restoring a purchase on a new device
More ▸ Plans has Restore purchases at the bottom. It asks the store the app came from for anything bought with your Apple Account or Google Account and applies it to this device.
